Victorian silk cape

Beautiful antique Victorian silk cape with all over cutwork, ca. 1885 - 1890.

A real work of art, this cape! Beautiful cutwork top layer with finished edges and embroidery, beneath that a plain black silk layer. The cape has a chiffon collar and a chiffon ruffle at the bottom. It closes with hooks and eyes and is decorated at the closure with two large silk bows. In very good condition, the main silk is not damaged or weak, no splits or holes. The only minor damage is to the chiffon ruffle at the bottom, however this does not stand out at all. Unfortunately chiffon almost never keeps well after so long. The cape is certainly wearable! Measures approx. 63 cms from collar to bottom.
