Victorian gownArticle code: jk07 A lovely antique Victorian linen and silk child's / teenager's gown, ca. 1875.
A so called princess gown, which is made in one piece rather than a separate skirt and bodice as most dresses had in the 19th century. It is made of silver-gray polished linen with mauve coloured silk frills and bows, a really pretty and sweet muted colour combination. The dress has a bustle in the back and a large pocket sewn onto the skirt.
The fabric is in pretty strong condition, not torn and certainly not shattered at all, but is does have a lot of (water)staining as can clearly be seen in the pictures. No odour and no mold! We have not tried washing it, but the fabric is in such a condition that it should hold up to (hand)washing.
It is a teenager sized dress, so it is very petite. Bust measures approx. 74 cms, waist approx. 50 cms.
