Georgian/Victorian pelisse

Georgian/Victorian pelisse

Beautiful and very rare antique late Georgian or very early Victorian silk pelisse (over-gown or mantle), ca. 1830 - 1840.
Antique clothing from this era is very rare, especially in this amazing condition, a true collectors piece! A pelisse is a garment that was worn as a mantle or over-gown, the bodice has a closure at the waist, but the front of the skirt is open.
Made of very nice grey-green taffeta silk, a lovely colour. The bodice is decorated with silk fringe and has the dropped shoulders of the period, as well as the typical sleeve design with folds at the elbows. It is in amazing condition, the silk is still very crisp, strong and has no weak spots or tears, the colour is still perfectly uniform and not faded, this garment has been extremely well stored! It is fully lined, the skirt is lined with linen, except for at the front at the open part of the skirt, there it is lined with cream silk.
Measures approx. 64 cms at the waist and 84 cms at the bust.
