Christening gownArticle code: 150298 Lovely very long antique Victorian christening gown made of piqué cotton, ca. 1890.
This gowns seems simple at first sight, but isn't. It is made of piqué cotton, a very fine ribbed cotton with was in that time only used for formal clothing and was very luxurious. The gown has a lovely bodice with a very tightly gathered waist section, the pleats held together by lovely fine embroidery (extremely finely done smocking). The top part of the bodice has some lovely embroidery and pintucks. The sleeves and neckline are trimmed with fine bobbin lace. The skirt is very long and wide! In excellent condition, and it measures approx. 105 cms long.
